Shopping For A Wedding

I’m one of the parents. The wedding is this summer. The end of June. My daughter is the bride. I know the colors. I know the styles to be worn by the wedding party. But I don’t have the right clothing myself. Where does one start?

My daughter is one of my most Extraordinary of Bonds. I’m thrilled! I want to look nice but not too nice. It would be easy to spend more than she paid for her wedding gown!

This story comes to mind.

I had a good relationship with one of the student workers in the library years ago. She had played the starring role in a Catholic feature production of a saint.

She was staring off into space so I asked her, “What’s wrong? Are you alright?” She looked up at me from her seated position with eyes that didn’t seem to focus. She said, “I don’t know what to wear!” Knowing that her boyfriend also works in the library I thought that maybe he had asked her over to meet his parents or something.

I told her that it probably was not really that big of a deal after all. “I’m sure you have something in your closet that will work.” I thought this might get her mind back to the present and in problem solving mode. So I asked her, “What’s the occasion?”

What she said was enough to cause my own eyes to glaze over.

She replied without looking up, “I’ve been invited to an audience with the Pope.”
